Chase Dollander to the Injured List

Colorado Rockies rookie right-handed pitcher Chase Dollander has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right forearm strain.

This decision was made one day before Dollander’s scheduled start against the New York Yankees on Friday.

Dollander, who has a 2-5 record with a 6.28 ERA, threw 98 pitches in 4 2/3 innings on Sunday in Arizona. In his last two starts, he has 13 strikeouts and allowed three runs.

The Rockies have not announced a replacement for 23-year-old Dollander in the rotation. The player is expected to be able to return after missing only two starts. The transaction is retroactive to Monday.

Dollander, selected in the ninth overall pick of the 2023 MLB draft from Tennessee, recently mentioned that he is working on “mechanics” and seeking to anchor himself more consistently on the mound. It is not clear if the Rockies identified this aspect as related to the injury.

To take Dollander’s place on the roster, the Rockies called up 24-year-old reliever Juan Mejía. The right-handed pitcher has appeared in six games with the Rockies this season, recording a 4.72 ERA in 7 2/3 innings.
