Controversy in the All-Star Game: The inclusion of Jacob Misiorowski
The call-up of young Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski to the National League team for the All-Star Game has generated various reactions in the baseball world. Some players and fans expressed their discontent on social media, questioning the inclusion of a player with only five starts in the majors over others with better numbers in the first half of the season. The Los Angeles Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, who will manage the National League team in Atlanta, has a different vision. Roberts, although he had no say in the selection of Misiorowski, considers the decision positive because of the entertainment value that the mid-season classic brings. Misiorowski, 23 years old, has drawn attention for his impressive speed, reaching 100.5 mph on his first pitch in the Major Leagues. His current record is 4-1 with an ERA of 2.81. The Brewers manager, Pat Murphy, understands the criticism, but believes this call-up is a gift for the fans. The All-Star Game is for the fans. This guy hasn’t pitched much in the big leagues, but I think he generates more excitement, seeing that velocity.

Murphy compared Misiorowski to former Detroit Tigers pitcher Mark ‘The Bird’ Fidrych, who was an All-Star in his first two seasons in the majors. Fidrych, a singular player, used to talk to the ball on the mound and was much loved by the fans. In his rookie season in 1976, Fidrych pitched 24 complete games, including two consecutive 11-inning games. Murphy commented that Misiorowski has similarities to Fidrych.People want to see Miz pitch. He’s the league’s new toy. It’s not about deserving; it has nothing to do with that. He’s been given this opportunity. It’s not his fault.
