Luis Robert Jr. Evaluated After Being Hit by a Pitch

The White Sox’s star outfielder, Luis Robert Jr., is being evaluated after being hit by a pitch in his return to the team on Sunday. Robert Jr. had been out for two games due to a right adductor strain. In the game against the Chicago Cubs, Robert Jr. went 0-3 as the designated hitter, in a 5-4 loss. He was hit on the right arm by a 101.1 mph fastball thrown by Daniel Palencia in the ninth inning. Yes, he’s going to be evaluated now. That throw hit him pretty hard, so we’ll see how he is after that. Initially, Robert Jr. was not in the starting lineup, but managed to enter the game. He had a fly ball to left field in the second inning, a grounder in the fifth, and a fly ball to second base with two runners on in the seventh.

Good swings. I think physically, he’s still in the process of recovering. But I think there were good competitive swings, competitive at-bats, and it was good to see him out there.

With the White Sox in a rebuild and located in last place in the American League Central Division, Robert Jr. could be traded before Thursday’s trade deadline. Before the game, the center fielder, who had a difficult start to the season, had a nine-game hitting streak. Robert, who will turn 28 on August 3rd, is batting .204 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs in 85 games. He also has a personal record of 26 stolen bases. Robert felt the injury in his adductor while stealing second base in the ninth inning of the 11-9 victory in Tampa Bay on Wednesday. The White Sox had a day off on Thursday, and Robert rested during the first two games of the series against the Cubs.
