Attention baseball fanatics! Anthony Rizzo, the star of the Chicago Cubs, returns to the organization as an ambassador and will be honored with a retirement ceremony on the field at Wrigley Field. A Legacy in Chicago
Rizzo’s most outstanding achievement was leading the Cubs to victory in the 2016 World Series, the first title for the organization in 108 years. He was traded to the New York Yankees in the summer of 2021, where he played his last three and a half seasons.Rizzo, with a career OPS of .828 and 303 home runs, was a key player in the historic 2016 postseason. In the World Series against Cleveland, he batted .360 with an on-base percentage of .484, and .320 in the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He formed a dynamic duo with Kris Bryant, leading the team to its first title in over a century. Rizzo is also recognized for his work off the field, especially for his support of cancer patients. A cancer survivor himself, he created the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, dedicated to helping children with cancer. In 2017, he received the Roberto Clemente Award, the league’s highest community service honor. Rizzo joins other Cubs ambassadors, including Andre Dawson, Ryan Dempster, Fergie Jenkins, Lee Smith, Billy Williams, Kerry Wood, and Ben Zobrist.Anthony Rizzo was the face of one of the most successful eras in the history of the Chicago Cubs and we are very excited for him to be part of our organization in the years to come.
