Red Sox Make Roster Moves: Slaten to Injured List

The Boston Red Sox have made several changes to their roster, highlighting the inclusion of right-handed reliever Justin Slaten on the 15-day injured list due to shoulder inflammation.

These moves were announced on Sunday morning, and included the addition of right-handed pitcher Luis Guerrero, who was called up from Triple-A Worcester, to take Slaten’s place.

In addition, the Red Sox selected the contract of infielder Nate Eaton and sent infielder Nick Sogard to Triple-A. They also designated catcher Blake Sabol for assignment, in order to free up space on the roster. Slaten, 27, has been a key piece in Boston’s bullpen this season, despite his 1-4 record. He has appeared in 24 games with an ERA of 3.47 in 23.1 innings. In his second season with the Red Sox, Slaten was selected in the third round of the 2019 draft by the Texas Rangers. Last year, he had a 6-2 record with a 2.93 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 44 appearances.

In 2025, his performance has been less dominant, attributing the decline to fatigue.

Guerrero, 24, has performed remarkably in his limited appearances in the Major Leagues over two seasons, with an impressive 0.59 ERA in 15.1 innings (13 appearances).

Overall, Guerrero has a 14-12 record with a 3.11 ERA in 133 minor league appearances.

Eaton, who plays in the outfield and at third base, was selected in the 21st round of the 2018 draft by the Royals. He has 159 at-bats in the Major Leagues, with a batting average of .201. The 28-year-old player last appeared in the majors with Kansas City in 2023.

Sogard, 27, batted .245 for Boston this year in 14 games (49 at-bats).

Sabol, 27, has had an even smaller sample size this year than Sogard (eight games, 16 at-bats), but has had limited success, batting .125.
