Marcelo Mayer to the Injured List: Red Sox Adjust Their Roster
The Boston Red Sox announced this Friday the inclusion of Marcelo Mayer on the 10-day injured list due to a sprain in his right wrist. The measure is retroactive to Thursday. Mayer suffered the injury during Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies and was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday.Before the start of Friday’s series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston manager Alex Cora was asked if surgery was an option for Mayer. Cora responded that the team was still gathering information.
Mayer, who began the season as baseball’s No. 6 prospect according to, was called up in May after Alex Bregman injured his quadriceps. Mayer has played primarily at third base with Boston, with some appearances at shortstop and second base. He is batting .228 with four home runs and 10 RBIs. In the corresponding move on the roster, Boston called up speedy infielder David Hamilton from Triple-A Worcester.
