Boston Red Sox Bolster Rotation with Sonny Gray
The Boston Red Sox have reached an agreement to acquire veteran right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray from the St. Louis Cardinals, sources confirmed this Tuesday.
Gray, who previously expressed his willingness to waive his no-trade clause to facilitate his departure from the Cardinals, now joins Boston’s rotation.
The 36-year-old pitcher had a standout season in 2023, recording a 14-8 record with a 4.28 ERA, maintaining his consistency by starting each game for the Cardinals.
Gray has one year remaining on a three-year, $75 million contract, which includes a team option for 2027.
With 13 years of experience in the Major Leagues, Gray has been recognized with a selection for the All-Star Game in 2023. Throughout his career, he has maintained an ERA of 3.58 in 330 starts.
