Red Sox Bolster Infield with Caleb Durbin in Trade with Milwaukee

The Boston Red Sox have made a significant move to strengthen their infield. In a six-player trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, the Boston team acquired third baseman Caleb Durbin, ending the search for a right-handed infielder for the start of the season. In addition to Durbin, the Red Sox added infielder Andruw Monasterio, versatile player Anthony Seigler, and a draft pick to their ranks. In the deal, the Brewers received infielder David Hamilton and left-handed pitcher Shane Drohan. Caleb Durbin, 25 years old, had an outstanding season last year, finishing third in the voting for the National League Rookie of the Year. Durbin came to the Brewers after a trade with the New York Yankees. The Red Sox’s need to cover third base arose after the departure of Alex Bregman, who signed with the Chicago Cubs.

Caleb Durbin finished third in the voting for National League Rookie of the Year in 2025, after batting .256 with 11 home runs, 53 RBIs, and 18 stolen bases for the Brewers. The Red Sox, who had an overabundance of starting pitchers, were looking to capitalize on this situation. Pitcher Kyle Harrison, who was part of the Red Sox, now joins the Brewers and will seek to secure a spot in the rotation. Milwaukee, for its part, seeks to reinforce its team with the arrival of Harrison, with Brandon Woodruff, Jacob Misiorowski, and Quinn Priester leading the rotation. The Milwaukee deal to acquire Sproat also included infielder Jett Williams, a candidate to fill an infield position. In addition, the Brewers have shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt, with infield prospects Jesus Made and Luis Peña, who are considered among the best in baseball. The Brewers also got rid of Monasterio, who played in a utility role for the last three seasons. He batted .270/.319/.437 last season, playing in all four infield positions, as well as left field. Seigler, a former Yankees first-round pick as a catcher, spent most of his time at third base last year. Hamilton is known for his speed, with 55 stolen bases in 65 attempts in the last two seasons. Drohan, for his part, had an outstanding performance in Triple-A.
