Chris Martin, Rangers Reliever, Out with Injury

Texas Rangers reliever Chris Martin will be out of action for four to six weeks due to a left calf strain, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Martin, 39 years old, was placed on the injured list after suffering the injury during Sunday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. This season, Martin has been a reliable option for the team in the late innings, showing an earned run average (ERA) of 2.36, with 36 strikeouts and only 6 walks in 34 1/3 innings. In addition, he has achieved two saves. Martin, who was also out in May due to fatigue in his right shoulder, has a career record of 17-24 with 16 saves, an ERA of 3.28, 51 walks and 393 strikeouts in 381 innings in 409 relief appearances for seven different Major League teams since 2014.

Josh Jung Returns to the Team

In other moves, third baseman Josh Jung was called up from Triple-A Round Rock after being sent there earlier this month. Jung, 27, was sent to the minors on July 2 after batting .237 with 8 home runs and 35 RBIs in 75 games this season. His performance in Round Rock did not improve, recording a batting average of .205 in eight games. Right-handed pitcher Cole Winn was also called up from Round Rock, while infielder Justin Foscue and outfielder Alejandro Osuna were sent back to the Triple-A team.
