Cal Raleigh Hits His 58th Home Run and Leads MLB

In a night filled with emotions, Cal Raleigh, the outstanding catcher for the Seattle Mariners, demonstrated his power by hitting his 58th home run of the season, solidifying himself as the absolute leader in Major League Baseball (MLB). Raleigh’s two-run hit was crucial in the Mariners’ victory over the Houston Astros with a score of 7-3. Raleigh’s home run came in the second inning, driving in the team’s lead. The team was already up 5-0 thanks to a grand slam by J.P. Crawford.

Honestly, you couldn’t ask for a better three-game series. Obviously, there’s a lot on the line, and I give credit to the guys here in this clubhouse. They never doubted and brought the same energy every day, the same focus. They weren’t satisfied after one or two wins, and we finished the job.

With this new record, Raleigh surpassed Ken Griffey Jr. and his mark of 56 home runs in a single season. Additionally, Raleigh surpassed Mickey Mantle’s mark of 54 home runs for a switch-hitter, which had stood since 1961. Raleigh also set a new home run record for a catcher in a season, surpassing Salvador Pérez’s 48 in 2021. Raleigh surpasses Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies by five home runs, who share second place with 53 home runs.
