In an impressive offensive display, the Seattle Mariners crushed the Atlanta Braves with a resounding 18-2 victory, marking their highest run total since 2012.

Cal Raleigh Leads the Offense

Cal Raleigh hit his 53rd home run, leading the league, while the team accumulated 20 hits. Raleigh is only one home run away from tying Mickey Mantle (54 in 1961) for the most home runs by a switch-hitter in a season in MLB history. Eugenio Suárez also stood out with two home runs, raising his total to 45 on the season.

El bateador de los Mariners, Cal Raleigh, necesita un jonrón más para igualar a Mickey Mantle (54 en 1961) como el máximo jonronero ambidiestro en una temporada en la historia de la MLB.
Jorge Polanco and Josh Naylor also contributed with home runs, adding to the Mariners’ five home runs in consecutive games for the second time in team history. Polanco and Naylor drove in runs in an eight-run third inning, while Raleigh hit a three-run home run in the ninth, accumulating 113 RBIs. Suárez hit a solo home run in the sixth and another two-run homer in the ninth, marking his seventh multi-homer game this season, second only to Raleigh (9) among all Major League players. Seattle hadn’t scored so many runs since May 30, 2012, when they beat Texas 21-8, and tied their highest number of hits in that same game.

Castillo and Rodríguez shine

Luis Castillo (9-8) allowed one run and four hits in six innings, earning his first win since July 28. Julio Rodríguez, for his part, stole a base, achieving his third season with 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases, tying Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Bonds for the most 25-25 seasons in a player’s first four years. Seattle (75-68) opened a 1.5-game lead over Kansas City (73-69) for the third and final American League wild card spot. Texas fell to 73-70 with its third loss in four games.

Game Incidents

Atlanta’s scheduled pitcher, Spencer Strider, was scratched for Sunday and his start was pushed back to Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs. Joey Wentz (5-6) allowed eight runs and eight hits in 2.1 innings.
