Jurickson Profar’s return to the Atlanta Braves was marked by a day of contrasts, where the apology and the performance on the field intertwined. On Wednesday, Profar started the day by apologizing to his teammates in the Braves’ clubhouse, after missing 80 games for violating MLB’s joint drug prevention and treatment program. The day culminated with an interview with reporters, after a standout performance in Atlanta’s 8-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels, where he went 2-for-4, including a home run and two runs scored.

I had to talk to my teammates, to the fans and to everyone to leave this behind. It’s about winning. I will do everything I can to help the team win every night.

Jurickson ProfarProfar’s home run, which occurred in the seventh inning, further boosted the Braves, who were leading 7-2. His single in the sixth inning, with two outs, was crucial, as it triggered a seven-run explosion that consolidated the Braves’ lead. After an All-Star season with the Padres, where he reached career highs in home runs, RBIs, and OPS, Profar signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Braves in the offseason. After four games, he was suspended without pay after testing positive for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) and will not be able to participate in the 2025 postseason. Profar returned to a Braves team that, before Wednesday, had a record of 38-46 and practically no production from left field. The Braves occupied the last place in the majors in home runs (2) and OPS (.523) from that position.

It’s good to have that switch-hitter in the middle of the lineup and feel good when he’s there. He’ll have a good at-bat and take some walks. That lengthens the lineup a little bit.

Brian Snitker, Braves manager
Profar took responsibility for his failed drug test before the game and was pleased to have the opportunity to speak with the team upon his return.

I know I put them in a very, very difficult situation. But, again, I’m here and ready to go to battle with them and give everything I have to help us get to the playoffs.
