SAN FRANCISCO – Buster Posey, Giants executive, has made it clear that he is not considering his former manager, Bruce Bochy, as a candidate to once again fill the vacant manager position in San Francisco. Posey, who is currently the club’s president of baseball operations, revealed on Wednesday that he spoke with Bochy a few days ago. During the conversation, the possibility of a role for Bochy within the organization was suggested, although not in the manager position.
The decision to fire Bob Melvin was made on Monday, after his second season concluded with an 81-81 record, one more win than the previous year, and a fourth consecutive missed opportunity to qualify for the playoffs. That same Monday, the Texas Rangers announced the departure of Bochy, 70 years old, after three seasons that culminated in the organization’s first World Series championship in 2023. Posey expressed his hope of finding someone who can provide long-term stability in the manager position, as the club tries to become a regular contender again. However, he did not provide details about the process, except that interviews are taking place this week. Under Bochy’s direction, the Giants won World Series championships in 2010, 2012, and 2014.The door is always open here for some kind of role. I don’t see us going that route with Boch.

When 38-year-old Posey took over his current position last year, replacing Farhan Zaidi, he committed to three seasons. Currently, he plans to fulfill that agreement. We had a pretty consistent period of not playing good baseball. There are a lot of good things in place, but ultimately we didn’t achieve our goal this year.

I am fully committed, but I think the focus should be on the present. That’s the way I try to see it. Would I like to do it longer? Sure, but I think the focus should be on the moment.
