Kavan Markwood, the 20-year-old who suffered a fall at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park last week, revealed this Wednesday that he still feels pain and described his injuries as “everything broken”.
In his first known interview since the incident, Markwood stated that he has not seen the video of what happened and expects to be discharged from the hospital in a week.
I’m fine. I can’t sleep well. I have a lot of back pain.

Regarding his injuries, he added: “I think when I get home I’ll just put ice on it.”
The accident occurred when Markwood slipped from a railing and fell about 21 feet onto the field during the seventh inning of the game between the Pirates and the Chicago Cubs on April 30. He was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition. Pittsburgh Public Safety, which includes the Police and emergency services, has classified the incident as an accident.
Dr. Allan Philp, medical director of Allegheny General Hospital, reported on Wednesday that Markwood suffered serious injuries to his skull, spine, ribs, and lungs.
I am happy to say that he has progressed well, he is now off the ventilator, out of the intensive care unit, and preparing to move on to the next step, which will be physical therapy and rehabilitation.
