Jhoan Duran, Phillies Pitcher, Leaves Injured After Being Hit by Ball

In an unexpected turn of events during Friday night’s game, Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran had to leave the field. The incident occurred in the ninth inning of the match against the Washington Nationals, where the Phillies secured a 6-2 victory. Duran, who had been out of action for four days, was facing Paul DeJong when the mishap occurred. A strong hit by DeJong impacted directly on Duran’s right foot, causing the ball to deflect into foul territory. Initially, Duran ran after the ball, but soon began to limp, visibly affected by the blow. After an initial evaluation, the Phillies reported that the X-rays taken were negative. However, Duran would undergo further evaluations on Saturday to determine the severity of the injury. The Phillies manager expressed his concern about the situation, commenting on the moment Duran felt the pain and the decision to use the cart to take him off the field.

He ran like lightning to get the ball, and once he got there, I think the adrenaline wore off and the pain set in. But before the cart came out, he said, ‘I actually feel better, I think I can walk to the dugout.’ But we have all these steps here, so we just wanted to use the cart and take him to the end, so he wouldn’t have to go up the steps.
