David Robertson Returns to the Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have called up 40-year-old reliever David Robertson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The move comes three weeks after Robertson signed a free agent contract with the National League East leading team.

Robertson made six relief appearances with Lehigh Valley, where he recorded an ERA of 10.13. Despite this, he had four scoreless outings. In 5 1/3 innings, he struck out six batters, walked one, and allowed 11 hits and six runs.

The Phillies made this move before the last game of the series against Texas, where Robertson had a 3-4 record with a 3.00 ERA in 68 games last season.

To make room on the 26-player roster, right-handed pitcher Alan Rangel was optioned to Triple-A.

Throughout his 16-year career in the Major Leagues, Robertson has an ERA of 2.91 in 861 games, almost all as a reliever. This is his third stint with the Phillies, the first as a free agent before the 2019 season and then after being acquired in a trade from the Chicago Cubs in 2022. He played nine seasons with the Yankees in two different periods in New York, the team that selected him in the 17th round of the 2006 amateur draft.
