KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pittsburgh Pirates broke a 30-inning scoreless streak thanks to Tommy Pham’s two-run homer in the third inning of Monday night’s game in Kansas City.
The team had been shut out in the three games against Seattle in their previous series.
The scoreless streak included Sunday’s 1-0 loss to the Mariners, where Pittsburgh’s ace, Paul Skenes, struck out 10 batters in five scoreless innings, before the Pirates conceded a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Before starting this nine-game trip with the sweep of the Mariners, the Pirates had blanked the St. Louis Cardinals in three consecutive home games. Their streak of playing in six consecutive shutouts equaled the longest in Major League history.
Pham, a 12-year veteran in his first season with the Pirates, framed the scoreless streak with RBIs. He drove in a run in the seventh inning with a groundout on Wednesday during the 5-0 victory over the Cardinals.
