Xander Bogaerts to the Injured List: Padres Lose Their Star
The San Diego Padres have placed shortstop Xander Bogaerts on the 10-day injured list due to a non-displaced fracture in his left foot.
Bogaerts suffered the injury during Wednesday’s game against Seattle, when a ball hit his foot. Despite this, he remained in the game, but the examinations revealed the fracture.
Before the injury, Bogaerts had participated in 131 of the Padres’ 134 games. His batting average was .262, with 49 RBIs and a career-high 20 stolen bases for the season.
To fill Bogaerts’ position on the roster, San Diego called up infielder Mason McCoy from Triple-A El Paso. McCoy has played in four games with the Padres this year and had a batting average of .272, with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs in 90 games in Triple-A.
As the day began on Friday, San Diego was two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West Division.
