Parents Send JP Sears to Triple-A After Difficult Debut

The San Diego Padres have sent left-handed pitcher JP Sears to Triple-A El Paso, one day after his complicated debut with the team.

The Padres acquired Sears and reliever Mason Miller from the Athletics during last week’s trade deadline, in exchange for several prospects, including promising shortstop Leo De Vries.

In his first outing with the Padres, Sears allowed five runs and ten hits in five innings, in a 6-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 29-year-old pitcher has a 7-10 record and a 5.12 ERA in 23 starts this season.

To fill Sears’ spot on the roster, the Padres called up right-handed pitcher Sean Reynolds.
