Padres Activate Jackson Merrill and Bolster Roster

The San Diego Padres have made key decisions to strengthen their team. Center fielder Jackson Merrill has been activated from the 10-day injured list, while right-handed pitcher Sean Reynolds has been called up from Triple-A El Paso.

Merrill, who suffered a sprain in his left ankle, was on the injured list from August 23, retroactive to August 20. This was his third time on the injured list. His last game was on August 17 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In the season, Merrill bats for .261 with nine home runs and 51 RBIs. For Monday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, he was not included in the starting lineup. Bryce Johnson took his place in center field.

Manager Mike Shildt had to make adjustments to the lineup, as leadoff hitter Fernando Tatis Jr. was scratched just before the start of the game due to lower body discomfort.

The Padres began Monday two games behind the Dodgers in the National League West, placing them in the second National League Wild Card spot.

Reynolds, with a 0-0 record and an ERA of 4.98, is in his fourth stint with the Padres this year. After being sent to El Paso on August 9, he had six scoreless outings in seven relief appearances, with an ERA of 1.23 and two saves.
