Andrew Painter Misses the Futures Game
The promising Phillies pitcher, Andrew Painter, will not participate in the Futures Game, as part of his recovery after elbow surgery. Painter, 22, had been included in the list for the July 12th meeting at Truist Park in Atlanta. This season, Painter has accumulated 57 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings pitched with the Class A Clearwater team and has made nine starts with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley team. Painter is scheduled to be the starting pitcher on Tuesday with Lehigh Valley. The Phillies were hoping he could debut in the Major Leagues after the All-Star break, if all went according to plan with his progress.Painter suffered an elbow injury during spring training in 2023 and underwent Tommy John surgery that same year. In 2022, Painter advanced quickly through the Phillies’ system, with a 6-2 record and a 1.48 ERA in 26 appearances split between two Class A teams and Double-A Reading. Painter was the thirteenth overall pick in the 2021 amateur draft and signed for a bonus of $3.9 million. Of the 1,170 players who have participated in the Futures Stars Games, 86.5% have played at least one game in the Major Leagues and a total of 250 players (21.4%) have been selected for a Major League All-Star Game. We’ll keep him on our plan. There’s nothing to indicate he’s going to come up here. He has to be healthy. He has to throw well. We’ve always said that.
