Coby Mayo Unleashes Tension on the Field with His First RBI

In an exciting encounter between the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox, Coby Mayo starred in a key moment that ignited the spirits on the field.

With runners in scoring position and two outs in the fourth inning, Mayo, the designated hitter, hit a single to left field, driving in Ryan O’Hearn and scoring his first RBI in the Major Leagues.

After the hit, Mayo tried to advance to second base, but was caught in a rundown.

Second baseman Lenyn Sosa threw the ball to first baseman Miguel Vargas. Mayo and Sosa collided, and Mayo fell to the ground in an attempt to force an interference.

Vargas tagged him for the out, but Sosa didn’t react well to Mayo’s action.

After a brief conversation, Mayo pushed Sosa on the left shoulder, causing both teams to jump onto the field.

Obviously, I was just trying to get to second base. I was trying to get in scoring position for Heston (Kjerstad) and (Chicago) cut it off and I got into a run. I was told in the minor leagues to try to get into a run.

Sosa expressed his discontent with Mayo’s action.

I think he tried to make a dirty play and after that, I just went to ask him: ‘Why did you do that?’ His reaction was to push me.

The White Sox manager, Will Venable, downplayed the incident.

Mayo, 23 years old and considered one of the Orioles’ best prospects, entered the game with a batting average of .094.

The player went 1-for-12 in four games earlier this season with Baltimore, after hitting 4-for-41 in 17 games last season. Mayo, who went 1-for-3 on Saturday, is now batting .133 this season in the majors.
