Orioles Suffer Key Losses in Their Pitching Rotation

The Baltimore Orioles face a tough setback by ruling out two key pitchers for the rest of the season. Right-handed pitcher Zach Eflin will need to undergo a procedure on his lower back, while star closer Félix Bautista is suffering a “significant” shoulder injury, according to manager Tony Mansolino. Mansolino announced that Bautista has a scheduled appointment for this week and the team will provide an update later. Before Tuesday’s game against Seattle, the Orioles had used 58 players this season. The team record is 62, set in 2021, a year in which Baltimore lost 110 games.

This has been a constant for much of the season. It’s something we’ve had to face throughout the year.

The Orioles already had questions about their pitching staff at the start of the 2025 season, and injuries have worsened the situation. Grayson Rodriguez (elbow) has already undergone surgery and will not be able to play the entire season. Eflin, who will be a free agent, has only made 14 starts with an ERA of 5.93. Bautista returned from Tommy John surgery after missing all of last season. He recorded 19 saves with an ERA of 2.60, but Mansolino’s comments about his current state are concerning. The Orioles could be getting some help soon. Right-handed pitchers Tyler Wells and Kyle Bradish are close to returning from their respective elbow surgeries. Wells is expected to make two or three more rehab starts, while Bradish will make two.
