Orioles Acquire Alex Jackson from the Yankees

The Baltimore Orioles have bolstered their roster by acquiring minor league catcher Alex Jackson from the New York Yankees. The deal, finalized on Sunday, involves the transfer of international bonus pool money and either a player to be named or cash considerations.

Jackson, who has already been added to the Major League roster, arrives to add depth to the team.

Jackson was the sixth overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, selected by the Seattle Mariners. Throughout his career, he has maintained a batting average of .132 in 124 games, playing for the Atlanta Braves, the Miami Marlins, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Tampa Bay Rays. He has six home runs and 24 RBIs in his record. In addition, he has achieved a percentage of 29.1% (16 of 55) in terms of runners attempting to steal bases.

The 29-year-old catcher arrives at a crucial moment for the Orioles, who have lost their starting catcher, Adley Rutschman, due to a left oblique strain. Rutschman will be out at least until the All-Star break, which led him to the injured list for the first time in his career.

In addition to Rutschman, other catchers like Maverick Handley (concussion) and Chadwick Tromp (back) are also out of action. Adding to this is the situation of Gary Sánchez, who had to leave Saturday’s game against the Braves due to knee pain, after a play at the plate.

Sánchez was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday due to a sprained right knee.

In his time with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, Jackson recorded a batting average of .226, with 31 runs, seven doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, and 34 RBIs in 44 games. He also achieved a 26.3% (10 of 38) caught stealing percentage.
