Baltimore Orioles: Handley to the injured list with a concussion

The Baltimore Orioles have placed catcher Maverick Handley on the seven-day injured list with a concussion, one day after suffering a collision at the plate. The announcement was made on Monday, prior to the game against the Texas Rangers. In addition, Baltimore selected the contract of catcher Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Norfolk and transferred infielder Ryan Mountcastle to the 60-day injured list due to a strain in his right hamstring. Handley was injured in the second inning of Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees. Jazz Chisholm Jr. tried to score after a single by DJ LeMahieu to left field. The throw from outfielder Colton Cowser veered towards third base and Handley moved to catch the ball. He stretched to take it just as Chisholm was running towards him. Chisholm tried to avoid the collision, but could not avoid contact, causing Handley to spin. Handley, 27, left the game after speaking with interim manager Tony Mansolino and head athletic trainer Scott Barringer. Baltimore replaced Handley with Gary Sánchez, former Yankees player. Handley debuted in the Major Leagues on April 29. The Orioles are still without All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, who suffered a left oblique strain and is on the injured list for the first time in his Major League career.
