Baltimore Orioles Fire Brandon Hyde

The Baltimore Orioles have made a drastic decision by firing their manager, Brandon Hyde, on Saturday. The management expects this change to boost an improvement in the team’s performance, which has had a disappointing start to the Major League Baseball season.

Hyde, who led the Orioles during the final phase of their reconstruction and guided them to the last two postseasons, failed to maintain the positive course. The team has had a difficult start, with a record of 15-28 and a deficit of 10.5 games in the American League East Division, led by the New York Yankees.

The offense has underperformed, the pitching rotation has been among the worst in the league, and the defense has shown mediocre performance. The Orioles have regressed in all aspects of the game so far this season.

Hyde, 51, faced doubts about his long-term future after Baltimore was eliminated in the wild-card series against Kansas City last year. In 2023, despite having won 101 games, the most in the American League, the Orioles were swept by Texas in the divisional series.

In early May, Orioles general manager Mike Elias gave Hyde a vote of confidence, but the team lost 10 of its next 13 games, including the last four.

In addition to shortstop Gunnar Henderson, center fielder Cedric Mullins, and first baseman Ryan O’Hearn, the Orioles have received little offensive help. Injuries to infielder Jordan Westburg and outfielder Colton Cowser have also affected the lineup.

The pitching staff has been particularly problematic. With a thin rotation and injuries to right-handed pitchers Grayson Rodriguez and Zach Eflin, the Orioles have an ERA of 5.33, the worst in the American League and the third-worst in MLB.
