LOS ANGELES – Shohei Ohtani hit his 40th home run of the season on Saturday night in the fifth inning of the Los Angeles Dodgers game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ohtani sent the ball 417 feet to center field against starting pitcher Chris Bassitt, giving the Dodgers a three-run lead.

The Japanese star, known for his versatility, reached 40 home runs for the fourth time in his career, and for the third consecutive season, after winning MVP awards in each of the previous three years.

Joins Jim Thome and Mark McGwire as the only three players with multiple 40 HR seasons in both the American League and the National League.

He achieved it in his 115th game, the fewest games needed to reach the mark in a season in Dodgers history.
