Mookie Betts Returns to the Dodgers After Absence for Family Reasons
The stellar Los Angeles Dodgers player, Mookie Betts, is scheduled to rejoin the team on Saturday night, according to manager Dave Roberts. Betts was absent from a game due to a family matter.
Betts, 32, traveled to his home in Nashville on Thursday and did not participate in the Los Angeles’ 5-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday at Fenway Park.
“Mookie is on his way. We expect him to be at the stadium shortly after the first pitch,” Roberts stated.
Roberts explained that Betts’ absence was due to a delicate family situation, specifically a death. The manager emphasized the importance of Betts being with his family and then returning to his teammates.
This season, Betts has recorded a batting average of .238 with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs. Last week, he was benched in a game against Milwaukee due to his poor performance at the plate. Since then, he has hit 3 for 17, with no home runs or RBIs.
Roberts plans to speak with Betts to assess his physical condition and determine his availability for Saturday’s game.
Betts, who was a World Series champion with the Red Sox in 2018, was traded to the Dodgers after six seasons in Boston, before the 2020 season, where he won his first World Series title with Los Angeles (in 2020 and last season).
Shortly after joining the Dodgers, Betts signed a 12-year, $365 million contract.
