Mookie Betts Absent for Personal Matters

Dodgers star player Mookie Betts did not travel with the team and missed Friday night’s victory against the Red Sox in Boston due to a personal matter. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reported before the game that he wasn’t sure if Betts would be in Saturday’s lineup, although he is expected to arrive in Boston around 7:15 p.m. ET, the game’s start time that night.

“There could be some things going on that he might not be, that he has to deal with personally,” Roberts said after the Dodgers’ 4-3 victory Wednesday over the Twins, in which Betts started a rally in the ninth inning with an infield single with two outs. “Everything is fine with him, but yes, we’ll see.”

Betts, 32, played the first six seasons of his career in Boston and was the American League MVP in 2018, when he led the Red Sox to victory in the World Series over the Dodgers. He was traded to the Dodgers in 2020. Betts has struggled this season with career lows across the board offensively, batting .238 with an on-base percentage of .309, a slugging percentage of .370, 11 home runs, and 45 RBIs in 94 games. The eight-time All-Star has a career batting line of .290/.369/.514 with 282 home runs and 876 RBIs in 1,475 games for the Red Sox (2014-2019) and the Dodgers (2020-25).
