Mo’ne Davis Looks to Shine in the Women’s Professional Baseball League

The outstanding former Little League player, Mo’ne Davis, continues her baseball journey. At 13 years old, Davis made history by being the first girl to earn a win and a shutout in the Little League World Series. Now, Davis is one of more than 600 athletes who will seek a place in the Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL), which is scheduled to launch next year. The selection tests will be held in Washington, D.C., from August 22 to 25. The WPBL aims to start its season in the summer of 2026 with six teams. This league will mark the return of professional women’s baseball in the United States, since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, immortalized in the film “A League of Their Own”, disappeared in 1954. In next month’s trials, 150 players will be selected for the league’s inaugural draft in October. Davis’s rise to fame was meteoric in 2014, when he was throwing fastballs at 70 mph for the Taney Youth Baseball Association of Philadelphia, during that year’s Little League World Series. Davis became an instant inspiration for fans of all ages. His image appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, his jersey is displayed in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and he was named Sports Illustrated Kids’ SportsKid of the Year. Davis graduated from Hampton University in 2023 and has worked as a commentator on Little League game broadcasts.
