News from Saturday, March 28th
Saturday marks the start of the season with a full day. Here are the most relevant news.
Pavin Smith returned to action with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night, after being ruled out on Thursday due to an elbow issue. He is expected to be back in the lineup tonight.
The Miami Marlins modified their lineup before the start of the season due to a left oblique injury to
Christopher Morel.
Connor Norby played at first base and
Owen Caissie as designated hitter. Morel is being evaluated.
Despite
Jeremy Pena‘s debut with the Houston Astros,
Isaac Paredes was the designated hitter against the Los Angeles Angels’ left-handed pitcher.
Yordan Alvarez replaced
Joey Loperfido in left field. If Alvarez maintains this position against left-handed pitchers, he could gain eligibility as an outfielder in April.
Colorado Rockies outfielder,
Mickey Moniak, was placed on the injured list due to a finger injury. With the arrival of
Jake McCarthy,
Edouard Julien could take the designated hitter position.
A hamstring injury has limited
Rafael Devers to designated hitter in the early games of the season.
Week 1 Forecast Results
The first week of
fantasy baseball concludes with several teams playing a similar number of games. Starting pitchers who are generally lined up for two-start weeks. Remember that the starters at the back of the rotation will project approximately 5-6 fewer points in total than an ace.
We will have the first games in the batting parks of Colorado and Sacramento. The weather is something to take into account in the northern and northeastern cities, especially with colder temperatures and a higher probability of rain.
Friday Morning News
There were eight games on Friday, with the first starting at 4:35 p.m. ET. Pavin Smith was scratched with elbow discomfort. Smith is scheduled for an MRI today.
The Miami Marlins signed
Austin Slater to bolster their outfield and serve as a right-handed complement to their mostly left-handed group of outfielders. Slater will likely be in the lineup tonight.
In addition to the Rockies and the Marlins, Friday marks “Opening Day” for the Kansas City Royals and the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta, as well as for the Athletics and the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto.
Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt will rely on matchups and choose between “CJ Kayfus”, “Daniel Schneemann”, and “Angel Martinez” for a position in the outfield. Schneemann started, but was replaced by Martinez.
Jeremy Pena is on the active roster for the Houston Astros. If he can’t play,
Carlos Correa will return to cover the shortstop position, with
Isaac Paredes at third base.
Jackson Chourio will begin the season on the injured list
The Milwaukee Brewers will start the season with injuries. Chourio, who was hit by a pitch, has been diagnosed with a small fracture and will miss the first few weeks of the season.
Chourio’s
fantasy managers need to be patient, hoping he returns around April 16th, but his placement on the injured list opens opportunities for other Brewers players.
Sal Frelick, the right fielder, will lead in the short term, boosting his numbers potential.
Christian Yelich should now see some starts in the outfield, giving him the chance to quickly gain eligibility.
Garrett Mitchell and
Jake Bauers should also see an increase in playing time.
Replacing Chourio’s production in standard rotisserie leagues won’t be easy, as not many players possess his power/speed ability. Consider adding
Lawrence Butler and
Brenton Doyle. If you need more power,
Jac Caglianone and
Addison Barger are a good option. If you need speed,
Jose Caballero and
Chandler Simpson.
Thursday morning news about the player list
There were 11 games scheduled.
Leo Rivas will be at shortstop when the Seattle Mariners host the Cleveland Guardians.
J.P. Crawford will start the season on the injured list.
Carson Benge will be in the right field for the Mets.
Kevin McGonigle will start at shortstop for the Detroit Tigers.
JJ Wetherholt will be the starting second baseman and probably the leadoff hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Jeremy Pena’s Opening Day was affected, but he has been cleared and will be in the lineup.
