In a night full of emotions and records, the Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Minnesota Twins with a score of 17-7. The game was marked by the outstanding performance of Jacob Misiorowski and Christian Yelich, who shone on the mound and at the plate, respectively.
Misiorowski near perfection
Jacob Misiorowski, in his second career start, nearly threw a perfect game, taking the no-hitter into the seventh inning. Misiorowski, who had already impressed in his debut, once again demonstrated his dominance on the mound.
The 6’7″ pitcher struck out six batters, showcasing a fastball that reached 102.1 mph, complemented by sliders and changeups that hovered around 95 mph. Misiorowski became the first pitcher to start his career in the Major Leagues with 11 consecutive hitless innings as a starter since 1900.
However, in the seventh inning, Byron Buxton got a walk and Matt Wallner hit a home run, breaking the perfect game attempt. After the home run, Misiorowski was replaced by Nick Mears, receiving a standing ovation from the Brewers fans.
Misiorowski finished his performance with 86 pitches, 60 of them in the strike zone, leaving the game with an 8-2 lead for Milwaukee.
Yelich sets records
Christian Yelich had a historic night, driving in eight runs, tying the franchise record. Yelich hit bases-loaded doubles in the seventh and eighth innings, in addition to run-scoring singles in the sixth and ninth. His eight RBIs tied the record set by Rowdy Tellez on May 4, 2022.
Yelich became the first player since RBIs became an official statistic in 1920 to drive in at least eight runs without hitting a home run.
Milwaukee achieved its biggest lead of the season, surpassing .500 by six games, while the Twins have lost seven of their last eight games.
Joe Ryan (7-3) allowed three runs in 5 and a third innings, with 101 pitches.
In the first at-bat, Willi Castro struck out against a 95.5 mph slider from Misiorowski, after seeing four consecutive pitches of at least 100.8 mph.
Misiorowski threw 29 pitches at 100 mph or more, reaching a maximum of 102.1 mph, and threw 12 at 101 mph or more.
