Milwaukee Brewers: Woodruff and the team reach 60 victories. No surprise!

SEATTLE – Brandon Woodruff, starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, was initially surprised. After a brilliant performance in which he pitched six innings with only two hits, securing a 6-0 victory against the Seattle Mariners, Woodruff learned that the win not only extended the Brewers’ winning streak to eleven consecutive victories, but also gave them the best record in the National League.

It doesn’t surprise me. We have great players in this locker room and it’s a fun team. We say it every year, but this one is different.

The Brewers have won 60 of their first 100 games, with a team that has undergone significant changes from the one that won the National League Central Division last year.

Willy Adames and Corbin Burnes signed million-dollar contracts with other teams in the offseason. In addition, closer Devin Williams was traded. Despite these losses, the Brewers have maintained a high level of play. The Brewers’ rotation has proven to be solid, with a combined effectiveness among starters that is among the six lowest in the Major Leagues. This is partly due to successful additions, such as pitcher Quinn Priester.

This is thanks to our management and coaching staff, for putting the right players on the team. When you have players who play and have fun together, that’s the key. There’s a reason we’ve achieved this over the last eight or nine years.

Since 2018, the Brewers have won the National League Central Division four times and are on track to do so for the third consecutive time. This season, the balanced and collective effort has propelled the Brewers to numerous victories, including six against the Los Angeles Dodgers during their current streak. Brice Turang leads the team’s position players with three Wins Above Replacement. 21-year-old outfielder Jackson Chourio continues to shine after an outstanding rookie season. Freddy Peralta leads Major League pitchers with 12 wins. Joey Ortiz highlights the positive atmosphere in the locker room.

Winning is great, winning is fun. It’s a blessing to come to a Major League field and play. Winning is an extra. We are all very close in the locker room; I think we have a lot of fun being together, and I think that shows on the field.

The team, led by National League Manager of the Year Pat Murphy, is gaining confidence with each win, but there’s still a lot left to play in the regular season. The trade deadline hasn’t arrived yet, so the Brewers, a small-market team, have time to keep working.

There’s more to do, there are more opportunities. There’s no reason to relax. You have to know you’re in a fight. If you let your guard down, bam!, and sometimes you don’t recover.
