Milwaukee Brewers: Unstoppable Streak and Bigger Goals
The Milwaukee Brewers continue to demonstrate their prowess in the MLB season. Last Monday, the team achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first team since 2019 to record multiple winning streaks of 10 or more games. The 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates extended their current streak to 10 consecutive games. This achievement adds to a previous streak of 11 consecutive wins, solidifying their position in the league. With this feat, the Brewers join a select group of teams that have achieved two double-digit winning streaks since MLB expanded in 1969. These include the Houston Astros (2019 and 1969), the Los Angeles Dodgers (2017), the Toronto Blue Jays (2015), the Atlanta Braves (2013), the St. Louis Cardinals (2001), the Pittsburgh Pirates (1978), the Kansas City Royals (1977), and the New York Mets (1969). Additionally, the Brewers are the third team in the last 30 years to win their first 10 games of August, matching the 2022 Dodgers and the 2016 Cubs.Yelich’s home run broke the 1-1 tie and was the highlight of a four-run third inning for Milwaukee.Honestly, nobody cares what we did last month. It’s great, but we have bigger goals than winning 74 games or whatever. That’s great, but that wasn’t really our goal at the start of the season. We have bigger aspirations than that.
Christian Yelich, Brewers star player
Milwaukee’s winning pitcher on Monday, José Quintana (10-4), enjoys the moment as the Brewers improve to 30 games above .500, with a record of 74-44. The team has distanced itself 6.5 games from the Chicago Cubs (67-50) in the National League Central Division. It’s difficult to win just one game in the Major Leagues. We’ve achieved it simply by being present, focusing on the current day and not thinking about the previous days or what lies ahead. Staying present in the moment, talking, figuring out what we need to do to win that night.
Christian Yelich
It’s been fun the way we’ve been playing, all the energy we have around.
