Mets Suffer Another Defeat Against the Mariners and the Pressure Mounts

The Mets fell again on Friday night, squandering two leads and hearing boos after an 11-9 loss to the Seattle Mariners at Citi Field. The situation worsens for the New York team. The team has lost 14 of 16 games, trailing the Philadelphia Phillies, leaders of the National League East, by six games. In addition, they are only half a game behind the Cincinnati Reds in the fight for the third and final NL wild card spot.

It’s part of the mountain. You have to climb the mountain, and right now, we’re on a very steep part. And if we don’t come together and don’t strive to be better day by day, the mountain will be difficult to climb.

The current situation contrasts with the good performance they had until June 12, when they led the league with a 45-24 record. Since then, the team has a 19-34 record, the second worst in Major League Baseball in that period. Recent losses have come in various forms, whether due to an ineffective offense, issues in starting pitching, defensive errors, or bullpen collapses. This has left the Mets wondering how to regain the consistency they showed at the beginning of the season.

It’s difficult. We’ve all asked that question, and it’s difficult to pinpoint just one thing. We’re all trying to win games. All I can think about right now is that we’re not clicking at the same time and the other team is outplaying us.

The bullpen has been a problem in the last defeats, even though the management focused on strengthening it before the trade deadline. It’s hard to describe, especially with the amount of talent and elite arms we have there. Carlos Mendoza, Mets Manager Despite a good performance by Kodai Senga on Thursday, reliever Ryan Helsley couldn’t hold the lead. On Friday, the Mets led 6-4 after five innings, but the Mariners scored seven runs in the following three innings, including runs allowed by Tyler Rogers, Helsley, and Brooks Raley. Frankie Montas, who was relegated to the bullpen this week, also allowed a run.

I haven’t seen anything like this. I’ve been playing for a long time. But I feel like everyone here is doing their best to show up and play hard, and our offense did it tonight. Those guys were great. Scoring nine runs against a team like that, you should probably win the game. I was part of the problem and I didn’t make it.

Brooks Raley, Mets Reliever
Manager Carlos Mendoza reiterated that the team has the talent to overcome this situation, but time is running out, with only 40 games remaining in the regular season. The Phillies are pulling away in the division, and the Reds are nipping at their heels.

In summary, we have to start playing better. Especially when you get the advantage, we have to be able to close those games. Again, too much talent there.
