Lance McCullers Jr. returns to the injured list

The Houston Astros’ right-handed pitcher, Lance McCullers Jr., has been placed on the injured list again this Tuesday, due to a blister on his right finger. The decision is retroactive to Sunday. This situation represents the seventh opener and the seventeenth total player for the Astros on the injured list this season. McCullers, 31, started the season on the injured list and debuted on May 4, in his first start since the 2022 World Series. In June 2023, he underwent surgery to repair a flexor tendon, which forced him to miss the rest of that season. McCullers suffered a setback in his recovery in 2024, keeping him out of action for another year. In June, McCullers was placed on the injured list with a foot strain. The pitcher, who was selected for the All-Star Game on one occasion, has a 2-4 record with an ERA of 6.90 in 44.1 innings pitched in 11 starts this season. To fill McCullers’ position, Houston is calling up Nick Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land. Hernandez has appeared in two games for the Astros this season, recording a 9.00 ERA in two innings.
