Victor Robles Returns to Action with the Mariners

Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles has been activated from the 60-day injured list and is ready to play, while appealing a 10-game suspension. Robles, 28, suffered a dislocated left shoulder while making a spectacular catch during a 5-4 loss against San Francisco on April 6. The player is already in the lineup for Saturday night’s game against the Athletics. To make room for Robles on the active roster, Seattle designated infielder Dylan Moore for assignment. Moore is batting .193 with nine home runs, 19 RBIs and 12 steals in 88 games this season. Moore, 33, was the longest-tenured player in Seattle, having been with the organization since 2019. Robles was on a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Tacoma when he was suspended and fined by Major League Baseball for his behavior in the third inning of a game against Las Vegas last weekend. Robles was nearly hit by an inside pitch from Las Vegas’ Joey Estes in the third inning. After taking a few steps back from the plate, Robles picked up his bat and threw it in Estes’ direction. Robles was immediately ejected by home plate umpire Joe McCarthy. Robles had been hit by a pitch three times in his previous four games with Tacoma, including once previously by Estes. Robles took a few steps toward the mound while yelling at the pitcher, but was stopped by McCarthy and his Tacoma teammates. Robles apologized after the incident.

I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my recent reaction on the field. I let my frustration get the better of me, and I understand how that could have affected not only the game, but also the energy and respect that we all strive so hard to maintain.

The player added that returning from a long rehabilitation and being out of the game for most of the season has been a physical and mental challenge. In addition, the recent death of his mother has been incredibly hard. Before his injury, Robles was batting .273 with three RBIs and three stolen bases in 10 games with Seattle.
