GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Steven Kwan, a standout outfielder for the Cleveland Guardians, will have the opportunity to prove his worth in center field during the preseason. Manager Stephen Vogt is evaluating the best possible combination for the team’s outfield. Kwan, recognized for his defensive excellence, has been awarded the Gold Glove four times in left field, tying Kenny Lofton as the outfielder with the most Gold Gloves in franchise history. According to Vogt’s statements to journalists, Kwan has expressed his interest in playing in center field on certain occasions. Although Kwan primarily played in center field in Cleveland’s minor leagues, he has only participated in eight games in that position during his five seasons in the Major Leagues. Chase DeLauter, who debuted in the Major Leagues in last season’s American League Wild Card series against the Detroit Tigers, could also see time in center and right field. George Valera, for his part, will probably play in left field during Cactus League games. Kwan, a two-time All-Star, along with Ramírez, were the Guardians’ main consistent offensive threats last season, when they repeated as champions of the American League Central Division.

You will see the players move all over the field during the spring, as we have done in previous years. We are trying to optimize both for our best defensive team, along with maximizing our offensive potential is what we are looking for on any given day.

Vogt also commented that it could take a couple of weeks before Kwan is tested in center field.
