WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz is day-to-day after experiencing right oblique discomfort, according to manager Mark Kotsay. Kurtz felt discomfort on Friday against the Texas Rangers. On Saturday, he underwent an MRI that revealed no injury. The player did not start in the lineup for the second game of the three-game series. The trouble began after Friday’s batting practice. After getting a walk in the game, Kurtz, while running home from third base after a double by Brent Rooker in the third inning, seemed to aggravate the ailment, slowing his speed. Although Kurtz scored to tie the score 2-2, he went to the clubhouse immediately after, accompanied by the team’s medical staff.
Kotsay did not specify when Kurtz will return. There is no tension in the muscle tissue, but Kurtz is dealing with the pain.
