Ha-Seong Kim Joins the Atlanta Braves
Player Ha-Seong Kim joined the Atlanta Braves this Tuesday, debuting as shortstop in his first game with the team. Kim, 29, was claimed from the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. He batted sixth in the lineup for the second game of Atlanta’s three-game series against the Chicago Cubs. The Braves also called up left-handed pitcher Hayden Harris from Triple-A Gwinnett and placed outfielder Jurickson Profar on the paternity list. Right-handed pitcher Wander Suero was designated for assignment. Kim, who can also play second and third base, had been on the injured list due to lower back inflammation since August 21. This year, he was limited to 24 games, batting .214 with two home runs and five RBIs. In February, Kim signed a two-year, $29 million contract with Tampa Bay, which included a player option for $16 million for next year. Kim made his Major League debut with the San Diego Padres in 2021. In 540 games over four seasons with the Padres, he batted .242 with 47 home runs, 200 RBIs, and 78 stolen bases. He’s going to play practically every day. He’ll be the shortstop.
Brian Snitker, Braves manager
Before Tuesday’s game, Kim told reporters, through an interpreter, that his back feels better. He’s a good player. I think he’s a good acquisition. It’s hard to find shortstops, and getting an established one like this is very good.
Brian Snitker, Braves manager
Obviously, I’m excited to play alongside a talented group of players. I’m very excited to finish the season in a high and healthy way.
