Julio Rodríguez ignites the Mariners with a home run in the Championship Series

The Seattle Mariners started strong in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series on Monday, thanks to the stellar performance of Julio Rodríguez. The center fielder hit a three-run home run against an 84 mph splitter thrown by Trey Yesavage in the top of the first inning. According to data collected, the Toronto Blue Jays’ right-handed pitcher had never allowed an extra-base hit with that pitch. This was Rodriguez’s second home run of the postseason, as the Mariners look to take a 2-0 series lead.
The hit represented the first home run allowed by Yesavage in his career, in his fifth start (regular season and playoffs). Before Monday, he had only allowed two extra-base hits in 19.1 innings pitched. In Game 1, Seattle was losing 1-0 in the first inning, before recovering to win 3-1 on Sunday. The series moves to Seattle on Wednesday.
