Julio Rodríguez ignites the Mariners with a home run in the Championship Series
The Seattle Mariners started strong in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series on Monday, thanks to the stellar performance of Julio Rodríguez.
The center fielder hit a three-run home run against an 84 mph splitter thrown by Trey Yesavage in the top of the first inning. According to data collected, the Toronto Blue Jays’ right-handed pitcher had never allowed an extra-base hit with that pitch.
This was Rodriguez’s second home run of the postseason, as the Mariners look to take a 2-0 series lead.The hit represented the first home run allowed by Yesavage in his career, in his fifth start (regular season and playoffs). Before Monday, he had only allowed two extra-base hits in 19.1 innings pitched.
In Game 1, Seattle was losing 1-0 in the first inning, before recovering to win 3-1 on Sunday. The series moves to Seattle on Wednesday.
