Joe Torre will be Honorary Manager at the All-Star Game
The renowned Hall of Fame manager, Joe Torre, who led the New York Yankees to win four World Series rings, will assume the role of honorary coach for the American League in the All-Star Game, to be held on July 15 in Atlanta. This was announced by Major League Baseball on Tuesday.
Torre, who will turn 85 on July 18, will join the American League coaching staff, led by current Yankees manager Aaron Boone, and Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt.
The National League All-Star team will be managed by Dave Roberts, manager of the current World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his team.
The honorary coaches of the National League will be Brian Snitker, manager of the Atlanta Braves, the host team, and Clayton McCullough, who debuts as manager of the Miami Marlins, after serving as the Dodgers’ first base coach for four seasons.
Torre, who currently works for MLB as a special assistant to the commissioner, has a career of 29 seasons as a manager and ranks fifth all-time with 2,326 victories.
Two-time American League Manager of the Year award winner, Torre managed the New York Mets (1977-81), the Braves (1982-84), the St. Louis Cardinals (1990-95), the Yankees (1996-2007), and the Dodgers (2008-10).
He was elected to the Hall of Fame as a manager in 2014 by the Expansion Era Committee. As a player, he wore the Braves jersey in both Milwaukee (1960-65) and Atlanta (1966-68), including five consecutive All-Star selections between 1963 and 1967.
Vogt, who played for the Braves in 2021, was named American League Manager of the Year in 2024 after guiding the Guardians to the Central Division title and the American League Championship Series in his first year.
