Jays bolster bullpen with Seranthony Domínguez acquisition

The Toronto Blue Jays have strengthened their bullpen by acquiring right-handed pitcher Seranthony Domínguez from the Baltimore Orioles, in exchange for pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown. Domínguez joins his new team in the middle of a four-game series between both teams in Baltimore, which includes a doubleheader scheduled for this Tuesday, prior to the final game on Wednesday afternoon. Although Domínguez has not participated in the series, he was active for Tuesday’s first game with Baltimore and will be available for the second game with Toronto. To make room on the roster, the Blue Jays designated right-handed reliever Chad Green for assignment. Green allowed four runs, the product of two home runs, in one inning during Tuesday afternoon’s loss to the Orioles, with a score of 16-4. Baltimore has scored 27 runs in two games against the leaders of the American League East in this series. Domínguez, who was acquired by the Orioles in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies at last year’s deadline, had a 3.97 ERA in 26 relief appearances for Baltimore. The Orioles exercised an $8 million option on 30-year-old Domínguez in the offseason. He currently has a 2-3 record with a 3.24 ERA in 43 appearances from the bullpen. Watts-Brown, 23, has split this season between the Double-A New Hampshire and High-A Vancouver teams. In 19 starts, he has a 2-5 record with a 3.54 ERA.
