Jared Jones to Undergo New Tests After Setback in Recovery

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones will be re-evaluated on Tuesday after experiencing a setback in his recovery from a damaged ligament in his right elbow.

Jones, 23, was in a throwing program while recovering from an elbow injury suffered in mid-March. The Pirates reported that Jones’ initial examination revealed his elbow was stable and the team decided to shut him down for six weeks. He had begun playing catch in late April, with the possibility of returning to the mound after the All-Star break.

In his rookie season in 2024, Jones went 6-8 with a 4.14 ERA in 22 starts, though he also missed time due to a lat injury.

The Pirates hoped Jones would be a key piece in the starting rotation alongside the 2024 National League Rookie of the Year, Paul Skenes. However, there is a possibility that Jones could miss the entire 2025 season and a significant portion of 2026 if Tommy John surgery is recommended.
