Encarnation Ready to Bolster the San Francisco Giants
Manager Bob Melvin has been waiting for the moment to include Jerar Encarnación in the San Francisco Giants’ lineup.
Encarnacion, a versatile player, was activated on Monday from the 60-day injured list and was available for the start of the four-game series against the San Diego Padres at Oracle Park, although not yet in the starting lineup. Melvin expects him to be able to start on Tuesday, either at first base or in right field.Encarnacion underwent surgery in March for a fracture in his left hand, suffered while attempting a catch during spring training.
In the Grapefruit League, he batted .302 with two home runs and 14 RBIs. Last year, he batted .248 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 113 at-bats.The Giants could benefit greatly at the plate, and Encarnacion hopes to contribute. We know he can give us power and has power in all fields. We saw it at the end of last year, we saw it in spring training. When we were about to leave spring training, he was going to have a lot of at-bats.

Encarnacion, originally from the Dominican Republic, debuted in the Major Leagues with Miami in 2022 and joined the Giants as a free agent last May.I’m just going to do what I can to contribute to the team.

The Giants sent outfielder Luis Matos to Triple-A Sacramento so he can develop and play regularly.
San Francisco returned home after losing five of nine games on its road trip through Washington, Detroit, and Miami. The Giants arrived on Monday having scored just 30 runs in their last 14 games, the club’s fewest in such a period since they were limited to 28 runs from June 20 to July 5, 2013.Encarnacion has been eager to rejoin the Giants, but accepted that it took him the necessary time to fully recover and return. He missed the first 59 games, then made seven rehab appearances with Triple-A Sacramento last week, playing three games at first base, starting two as a designated hitter and two more in right field. The good thing about him is that he can play multiple positions, he can pinch hit. It’s good to have him back. In spring training we were talking about how impactful he was going to be. He was having a great spring and, suddenly, he was out for a while. He feels good at the plate, he hit some home runs in the last few days, he’s ready to play.

I am very happy and glad to be here.
