Aaron Nola Starts Rehabilitation; Castellanos and Bohm Under Observation

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola is set to make his first rehab start on Thursday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley in Worcester. Nola is in the process of recovering from a right ankle sprain and a rib fracture that have kept him out of action since May. On Friday, Nola took batting practice. Phillies manager Rob Thomson reported on Saturday that the 32-year-old right-hander will throw around 60 pitches in the Triple-A game. Nola suffered the ankle injury during agility drills on May 8. After two ineffective starts, he was placed on the injured list on May 15. A bullpen session on June 1 resulted in pain, and an MRI revealed a stress fracture in a rib, according to Thomson, on June 10. Being on the injured list for a physical injury for the first time since 2017, Nola had a 1-7 record with an ERA of 6.16 in nine starts and 49⅓ innings. Right fielder Nick Castellanos was not in the starting lineup on Saturday, a day after getting injured in the Phillies’ 12-5 victory over the New York Yankees.

In last night’s play, when he went towards the wall, he simply bumped his left knee a little. He arrived a little sore today, so we’ll keep him out, we’ll see how he is tomorrow.

Alec Bohm is scheduled to meet with the Phillies on Sunday, will travel with the team to Chicago, and will be evaluated. Bohm suffered a fracture in a left rib after being hit by a Yu Darvish pitch at 92.2 mph in San Diego on July 12. The third baseman and first baseman returned on July 18 after the All-Star break and was then placed on the injured list.

Still a little sore.
