Rhys Hoskins Leaves Game with Thumb Discomfort

Milwaukee Brewers’ first baseman Rhys Hoskins left Saturday’s game against the Miami Marlins due to discomfort in his left thumb.

Hoskins felt pain after stepping on the base and catching a deflected throw from shortstop Joey Ortiz. The throw was trying to put out Eric Wagaman in the fourth inning.

Manager Pat Murphy and a Brewers coach immediately went to the dugout to attend to Hoskins. The player finished the inning, but was replaced by Jake Bauers in the fifth.

In his second season with the Brewers, Hoskins is batting .242 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs. On Saturday, he drove in Milwaukee’s first run with his eighth career triple.

Hoskins, 32, played his first six seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies. He missed the 2023 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a spring training game.
