Bryce Harper Day-to-Day with Elbow Injury

The Phillies’ first baseman, Bryce Harper, remains under daily evaluation as he recovers from a contusion in his right elbow, keeping his return to the field uncertain. Harper was hit by a 95 mph fastball thrown by Spencer Strider, pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, during the first inning on Tuesday. Although X-rays ruled out a fracture, Harper described the injury as “still very painful” and has not yet resumed batting practice.

I’m not sure when I’ll play again.

Harper’s elbow, operated on in 2022 with Tommy John surgery, remains a sensitive area. In view of the injury, Harper plans to use a protector on his right elbow once he returns.

It’s really hard to find protectors that feel good, that don’t feel bulky. I haven’t worn them in my whole career.

Despite this setback, the two-time National League Most Valuable Player emphasized that he does not believe Strider’s pitch was intentional.

Obviously, there was no intent.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson echoed Harper’s sentiments, stating that he does not expect Harper to go on the injured list.

We’ll have to see when he can return. We have to eliminate the swelling and that he doesn’t feel pain, or that he almost doesn’t feel it.

Harper took ground balls and fielded throws at first base before Friday’s game, but he did not throw or bat. In the 54 games this season, Harper is batting .267 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs. Alec Bohm has moved from third base to first base to replace Harper, and Edmundo Sosa has taken the position at third base.
