Harper Returns with Power: Phillies Crush the Blue Jays

Toronto – Bryce Harper’s return to the Philadelphia Phillies lineup marked an explosive start against the Toronto Blue Jays. Harper hit one of Philadelphia’s two home runs in a six-run first inning, against right-handed pitcher Bowden Francis in the first game of the series in Toronto. Harper’s return came after missing five games due to a right elbow contusion.

Without Harper, the Phillies had a 1-4 record and lost first place in the National League East.

After a two-run homer by Trea Turner, Harper hit a 394-foot home run, with both hits landing in the Philadelphia right field bullpen.

This was Harper’s first at-bat since he was hit by a 95 mph fastball from Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider during the first inning of a game last week. The home run was Harper’s ninth of the season.

Harper’s elbow, which was operated on with Tommy John surgery after the 2022 World Series, is still a sensitive area. Due to the injury, Harper wore a protector on his right elbow on Tuesday.

Alec Bohm, who had replaced Harper at first base, returned to third base against the Blue Jays. Bohm singled and scored in the first inning.
