Josh Hader, Astros Closer, Out with Shoulder Injury
The All-Star closer for the [Astros](/mlb/team/_/name/hou/houston-astros), Josh Hader, will be out of action for approximately three weeks due to a strain in his left shoulder capsule, the team announced on Friday.
Hader was placed on the injured list on Monday, marking the first time in his nine-year Major League career that this has occurred, due to a shoulder injury. Astros manager Joe Espada indicated on Wednesday that Hader would seek a second opinion before deciding on the next steps.
In his second season with the Astros, Hader, who has been selected for the All-Star six times, has a 6-2 record with a 2.05 ERA and is tied for third with 28 saves in 48 appearances this season.
Before Friday’s games, the Astros led the American League West Division by 1½ games, despite having 13 players on the injured list.
